The main purpose of this text is to try and encourage and entice people to want to start a career in the British army. it tries to do this by saying "be the best" which will appeal to people because they will think they'll be elite.

the audience will be a large range of people because the advertisement will be put in lots of different places like TV and magazines. or it will be people who are already interested in the army.
